There's a reason why Milano is our favorite metropolitan city to visit together. A major fashion capital and romantic curved streets lined with upscale retail shops -- it captivates us every single time. It is the perfect mother/daughter destination with no shortage of shopping, chic cafés and the cutest quiet corners and bends.
With direct flights to MXP from JFK and other major airports in the US & Canada, it's the perfect entry point and our favorite first (and last) stop when spending time on the Italian Riviera. A quick trip on a FRECCIAROSSA train and you're in Liguria taking in all of the colors of the Italian coast. Just watch out for strikes (if you know, you know).
Where to stay
We really like the Westin Palace - hello Heavenly Bed after an eight-hour flight. Our stays have always provided a consistent experience and the hotel is walking distance to Eataly and the Brera neighborhood. They also allow pets if you are traveling with a fur baby.
For more of a splurge, check out the BVLGARI Hotel or Four Seasons in the heart of the all the shopping.
Spots to check out
I Navigli. The perfect area to stroll and people watch along a picturesque canal. This is where you go for aperitivo - pick a spot and order a spritz. Don't forget to bring your SPRITZ SZN clutch ;).
Brera. There's no shortage of 30-somethings in this neighborhood. Hang with the locals and check out the classic narrow streets, lined with trendy boutiques and restaurants.
Granaio is a cute café hidden behind the Galleria when you need a cappuccino, gelato or pastry break from shopping. If you're closer to the Duomo, Vanilla Gelato Italiani on Via Pattari has good gelato, too.
Dal Bolognese - iconic. Order the bolognese and enjoy the charming courtyard.
Palazzo Parigi has a great afternoon tea in their private garden - a perfect mother/daughter activity.
Sant Ambroeus - classic, but a completely different experience than the US locations. Go during lunch time to check out the business rush, grab a cappuccino and something decadent.
What to wear
You are going to want to dress - the Milanese take their fashion seriously, and they do it better than anyone in the world (in our opinion).
Our black CIN CIN CARINA clutch pairs well with any outfit and is subtle enough to accent even the chicest attire for an evening passegiata in Milan.
